Build your business online with Search Engine Optimisation

Businesses are going global at the click of a finger in today’s world. The worldwide web has never been more important. Companies have got it all online, from blogs, Twitter, Facebook, to online advertisements. Why? The more you use these mediums, the greater opportunity you have to build your presence and business online. And that’s what it’s all about to succeed – being open and accessible.

But what is Search Engine Optimisation? SEO is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to your website – making sure your business can be found, seen and heard. The idea is that the higher your website appears on a search engine like Google or Yahoo results list, the more visitors you will receive to your website. Growing your business in today’s world is about how easily you can be found on Google.

So how do I optimise my website you might ask?

Define some keys words that define your business, products or services. Think about words that people would use to find you and make it available on your website so search engines can pick them up and help you target your customer.

Use social media, like Facebook and Twitter to improve your website’s visibility on search engine results pages. Do you tweet? Have you got a Facebook profile? Do you regularly blog? All these things will put you on the WWW map! USANA likes to use Facebook, Twitter and we blog regularly as well.

Write about what interests your customers and that relates to your business – health, fitness tips, style guide, etc. Tweet links related to your business and link your blog to your website. Experiment, encourage conversation with your customers and watch your business grow! Find new customers in the increased traffic that streams into your business as you move up the search engine ladder.

    I suggest that people who are really keen to promote online need to find an accredited course and learn how to do it correctly, to prevent haphazard attempts that do not work. I have spent almost a year self-learning via video tutorials and with help from a marketing coach. It does take time to do it properly if this is your first attempt.

    I recommend that companies hire a professional web developer to tailor the SEO for their website and help them setup Facebook, Twitter and the like. Once the foundation is laid the website owner can continue to maintain all these aspects themselves. If they require further help the web developer is on hand to help. The 1 on 1 tutoring will be more valuable than doing a classroom course.
